The World of Theatre: From Classical to Modern
History and Origins of Theatre
Theatre, an ancient performing art, has existed since antiquity. From ancient Greek plays featuring epic characters like Oedipus and Antigone, to Shakespeare’s profoundly humanist plays, the history of theatre has undergone continuous ups and downs and development.
Greek Theatre, with its tragedies and comedies, laid the foundation for many core elements of modern theatre. Principles of structure, characters, and conflict were established during this period.
Shakespearean Theatre marked a significant turning point in the history of world theatre, with immortal works such as Hamlet, Romeo and Juliet, Macbeth. He elevated theatre to a new level in terms of language, character psychology, and drama.
Theatre Genres
Today, theatre is diverse with many rich genres, from tragedies with tragic fates, comedies with humorous situations, dramas with profound social issues, to musicals combining music, singing and dance.

This genre focuses on conflicts, tragedies, and the downfall of the protagonist. The audience experiences deep, poignant emotions.

The Influence of Theatre
Theatre is not only a form of entertainment but also plays an important role in education, raising social awareness and realistically reflecting life. Theatre impacts the audience in many aspects, from emotions and thoughts to actions.
The importance of actors and directors cannot be overstated. Actors embody the soul of the work, while directors guide and shape the entire play.
Today, with the development of technology, theatre continues to seek new directions, from film theatre to online theatre, opening up new opportunities and challenges for the performing arts.
